Whether you’re stepping into the fire hall for the first time or still deciding if this path is for you, Episode One lays the foundation. We talk through the real expectations of becoming a firefighter — not the heroic clichés, but the stuff that actually shows up in the day-to-day: the culture, the pressure, the structure, and the values that define the job.

We cover the five essential firefighter guidelines — including safety, following orders, teamwork, critical thinking, and treating people with respect. But we also go deeper, looking at how those values show up on shift and in the quieter corners of the fire hall. Because being good at this job isn’t just about tactics — it’s about how you carry yourself, how you treat people, and how you learn to trust the team around you.

We’ll also walk through the actual qualifications you’ll need to get started — from medicals and physical tests to interview prep and licensing. And we finish every episode with a short, guided grounding drill voiced by Tamara Stanners — a moment to check in with yourself before heading into the next call, drill, or shift.

This is the first step. And it’s a good place to start.
